To all the prawn lovers out there!
Here we come with a starter that
has the potential to be part of every get-together and will be loved by all.
Eye-catching; mouth-watering Kueh
(little bites) Pie Tee Cups (crispy pastry tart shell) with Goan prawn pickle
filling.
Originally it is a popular Peranakan
dish generally found in Southeast Asian countries that we attempted to innovate
giving it a Goan touch.
Try it once and it can never
disappoint you.
Here is the amazing
recipe.
Do let us know if and when you
try it out.
We shall be happy to receive your
comments and feedback on our recipes.
Ingredients
6 Big
glass prawns (deveined and cleaned leaving just the tale part untouched)
1 tbsp
pickle masala (Will soon post a separate recipe on this)
2 tbsp
oil
2
medium-size red onions finely chopped
1
medium-size tomato
2-3
pods of garlic finely chopped
½ tsp
lemon juice
½ tsp
turmeric powder
½ tsp
red chilly powder (for spice)
1 tsp
Kashmiri red chilly powder (for colour)
1 tsp
tomato ketchup
Salt to
taste
Procedure
Marinate the prawns with 1 tsp
salt and set aside for 5-10min.
In a heavy bottom pan heat oil.
Add garlic to it. Cook until the raw smell goes away which will be
approximately 3-5min.
Add onion and toss until
transparent. Tip in all the masalas namely, both the chilly powders, turmeric
powder, and pickle masala.
Now add the chopped tomatoes.
Cook well until mushy.
Pour in the tomato ketchup.
Add the marinated prawns. (I
chopped a couple of prawns and kept some prawns as a whole for the plating)
Mix it well so that the prawns
are coated well in the masala. Cover the pan with a lid and let it cook for
5-7min until the prawns curl in and turn white and fleshy.
Cook for yet another 5 min with
open lid mixing the whole thing well once again.
Add salt along with fresh lemon
juice.
Give it one final stir.
Let it rest for 10-15 min for the
masala
to be nicely absorbed by the
prawns and serve it in the Kueh pie tee cups as an eye-catching and
lip-smacking starter.
Tips
and Notes
This version of prawns can be a
lovely starter for a small get together and trust me is a hit for sure.
These prawns can be also served
with Cabbage cups or tarts or pizza topping.
